Madison Accelerated Language Program
The Madison School District is committed to meeting the needs of our English Language Learners. To this end, we have implemented the Madison Accelerated Language Program, (MALP) an accelerated language program designed to increase student achievement through advanced English language proficiency. This program provides ELL children tailored support for critical language development skills. For four hours each day, students who are not proficient in English participate in the MALP program. This English language immersion program consists of instruction through speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary lessons. MALP teachers are highly qualified and have a Structured English Immersion (SEI) or English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement. Through small class sizes and highly qualified teachers, MALP enables students to more easily access critical academic standards by providing the English language proficiency and fluency essential for success in school. The curriculum is focused on accelerating the development of critical literacy skills such as reading, writing and vocabulary primarily through instruction in specially designed language proficiency standards. Throughout the year, student progress in language acquisition is monitored and the information obtained is shared with parents.
