8/09 Madison's Exceeds State ELL Reclassifications
A year after implementing the four hour Madison Accelerated Language Program (MALP), Madison has reclassified over 43% of its K-5 English Language Learners and 32% of middle school ELL students. This means that students who previously were not proficient in English have developed their English language skills at such a high level that they have been reclassified out of the program. This development is done through an English language immersion program consisting of instruction through speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary lessons for four hours each day. The percent of reclassification is significantly up from a year ago when only 29% and 10% of students were reclassified in their respective grade levels. The state average for this past year's reclassification is around 28%.

8/7/09 Thank You to our 2009 Welcome Back Breakfast Sponsors
The following organizations sponsored Madison's Annual Welcome Back Breakfast for all Madison staff. This year's breakfast was held on August 5, 2009 at North Phoenix Baptist Church and was a great opportunity for the entire staff to come together before the start of school. Employees enjoyed a continental breakfast, participated in raffle drawings, and celebrated the start of a new school year. The breakfast would not have been possible without the support of these sponsors.

7/09 Madison Receives International Accreditation
The Madison Elementary School District and all eight of its schools have been internationally accredited, recognizing the district's exceptional educational system of meeting the needs of all students. Madison is the first elementary district in the state to receive this honor. The accreditation occurred on April 21, 2009 through AdvancED . AdvancED is the world's largest educational community representing over 23,000 schools across 65 countries. To earn accreditation, a district must meet the AdvancEd standards of rigorous and research-based curriculum; a commitment to continuously improve; and effective and responsive leadership and communication with stakeholders. Additionally, accreditation provides the district with a framework to continually improve student achievement and district performance. Representatives from AdvancEd noted that all components of Madison's system of education, including the district, schools and classroom, operate as an aligned and systemic team- a rarity for an elementary district.
