Gifted Services in Madison

This year Madison School District's qualified gifted students in the K-4 schools will be provided enriched and accelerated instructional services using 2 models. Students in grades 1-2 will be placed in gifted cluster groups in classrooms. At grades 3-4 there are differentiated services that may be either in the cluster model or in some cases utilizing a subject specific pullout model.

In the middle schools all qualified gifted students are provided services in a replacement pull out model that meets daily. For the highly gifted, Madison also offers the REACH CENTER at Madison Park, a self contained school within a school that services students who are highly gifted in all three tested areas, or who have a minimum I.Q. score of 139 on a test approved by the State Board of Education.

Testing Dates

Students are tested three times a year for placement purposes. Most testing occurs in the early spring. Students may not take the same test more than once in a twelve-month period. For example, if a student is tested in the spring for gifted placement, he/she may not test again in the fall.

Madison has many gifted endorsed teachers and provides ongoing professional development to support those teachers who are working toward their endorsement. The District is focusing on differentiated education for all students and encourages all teachers to participate in these programs that are provided during the summer and throughout the school year.

There are opportunities for parents and educators to learn more about gifted education through the Madison Gifted Advisory Group, the Madison Supporters of the Gifted Parent Group, and the state-wide coalition of parent support groups of which Madison Supporters of the Gifted is a part. This coalition is known as the Arizona Gifted Alliance. The Alliance website: .
