Chris Thomas was elected to the board in 2004. His current term on the board expires December 31, 2008.

Mr. Thomas has lived in the valley for 25 years and has been a Madison resident for the past three years. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona, and obtained his law degree from the University of Nebraska. Currently, Mr. Thomas serves as the Director of Legal Services for the Arizona School Boards Association. He is also a current member of the Arizona Council for School Attorneys and a former member of the Rodel Foundation.

Mr. Thomas believes that outstanding educational opportunities should be available to all children. Mr. Thomas thinks education programs such as music, art, and physical education can spark a lifelong love of learning in children. He believes it is essential that students gain an understanding and appreciation of our country's history, how we are governed, and the critical role they play in our democratic process. Mr. Thomas also believes that character education programs should be available to children, with an emphasis on the celebration of society's diversities and the need to be tolerant of different points of view, cultures, and backgrounds.

Kendra Tollackson , Governing Board Member

Kendra Tollackson was elected the Governing Board in November 2006. This term will expire December 31, 2010.

Ms. Tollackson and her husband have lived in the Madison School District for thirteen years. They have two children who currently attend Madison Simis and Madison Meadows. She is a graduate of Smith College and completed a Masters Degree in Business Administration at Arizona State University.

She helped develop the successful "Every Child Can Read" program at Simis-an early intervention program for struggling readers. She currently works part-time as a fundraising consultant to local non-profit organizations.

Ms. Tollackson believes that the Madison School District faces many challenges, especially when it comes to allocating scarce resources among competing priorities. She is in favor of directing more resources toward teacher salaries and classroom support. She will also work to direct resources to proven early intervention programs, and to improve communication channels between the School Board and its constituents.
